Everyone knows that Formula One is about speed but not many know that speed is the result of many factors, such as strategy, luck and statistics. Using the chequered flag as a metaphor to a chess board, as both objects share the same black and white patterns, we featured these deciding factors in the promo with a series of black and white themed objects such as dices that influences luck, a crossword puzzle that signifies second-guessing what their rivals are planning, bar code showing obsession to statistics , a piano signifying the orchestral aural symphony that’s comes from the engines, and lastly, checkmate when the winner crosses the chequered flag. The series of black and white themed objects not only connect metaphorically but create an aesthetical link to the overall connotation that life is not as simple as black or white in Formula One. CRITICA created a series of trailers, teasers, show packaging and promo campaign for ESPN. The campaign is highly successful with viewership for males ages 15+ increasing by 5% across the asian cities.
