Atelier Wen invited us to create an motion animation piece for their new line of watch “Inflection”, which tells the story of one of watchmaking’s most elusive materials, tantalum. Known for its density, rarity, and resistance to convention, it’s a metal that demands patience and precision.
The animation draws viewers into that world of quiet intensity. From scenes inspired by molten metal and geological forms to the meticulous sketches of the final timepiece, every moment captures the beauty of transformation, how something so stubborn and rare can become something extraordinary.
The Video
The animation layers collage styled elements to evoke both science and mythology. Archival-style designs and old metallurgical sketches sit alongside textures of ore, photographs , sketches and handwritten scientific notations.
We finished the animation with thoughtful sound design, resulting in a rich visual tapestry where history, chemistry, and craftsmanship converge, giving the project a sense of depth and discovery.
